DSC is looking for an experienced PSR Engineer to join our team, based out of our Windsor office.
This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys being involved in both the technical and practical sides of industrial safety. You'll work directly with clients, equipment, and engineering teams to evaluate machinery and processes, identify potential hazards, and help ensure new and modified equipment is safe and compliant before it goes into production.
The PSR Engineer will be responsible for conducting and documenting Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Ontario Regulation 851.
What You'll Be Doing:
Conduct Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews in accordance with Ontario Regulation 851, Section 7
Determine when a PSR is required for new or modified equipment and processes
Evaluate machinery, production lines, robotic systems, automated equipment, and manufacturing processes
Conduct field inspections at industrial and manufacturing facilities
Review machine guarding, safety devices, emergency stops, interlocks, safety circuits, and control systems
Review safety PLC architecture and evaluate machine safety circuits
Participate in equipment design reviews and identify potential hazards before installation
Review vendor-supplied equipment and supporting engineering documentation
Verify that equipment installations align with approved engineering drawings and specifications
Observe equipment operation during commissioning and startup
Identify deficiencies and recommend practical corrective actions
Evaluate compliance with applicable CSA, ISO, IEC, ANSI, NFPA, ASTM, ASME, and other recognized engineering standards
Perform engineering calculations as required, including safety distances, guard openings, stopping times, equipment loads, structural evaluations, pressure calculations, and safety factors
Prepare clear and thorough PSR reports, risk assessments, hazard assessments, engineering review reports, corrective action reports, and compliance letters
Sign and seal engineering documents where required and within the engineer's area of competence
Maintain organized project documentation, engineering calculations, photographs, field notes, and supporting records
Meet with clients to understand project scope, explain regulatory requirements, and present engineering findings
Provide technical guidance as clients implement corrective actions
Manage multiple PSR and machine-safety projects at various stages of completion
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
5+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience preferred
Experience with industrial machinery, automation, controls, manufacturing equipment, or machine safety
Experience with PSRs, machine-safety reviews, risk assessments, or regulatory engineering reviews is strongly preferred
Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, controls, and equipment drawings
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
Strong technical writing and documentation abilities
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Transparent and professional communication skills
Strong attention to detail and sound engineering judgment
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Comfortable working independently in the field as well as with multidisciplinary teams
Technical Knowledge

Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's licence
Ability and willingness to travel to client sites as required
Comfortable performing field inspections in industrial and manufacturing environments
Must meet applicable work authorization and client-site requirements
Sponsorship is not available for this position

Why Join DSC?
At DSC, you'll have the opportunity to work on meaningful engineering projects across a variety of industrial and manufacturing environments. This isn't a role where you'll spend all of your time behind a desk. You'll work directly with clients, equipment, engineering teams, and real-world manufacturing challenges.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in producing thorough engineering work while also understanding the practical realities of getting equipment safely into production.
If you have experience in Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews, machine safety, industrial automation, functional safety, controls, or manufacturing engineering, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
