Job Description
The role
The Trading Operations Analyst is the production layer of the trade operations function — responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all post-trade activity across every asset class the desk trades. This includes equities, ETFs, fixed income, derivatives, FX, digital assets, and physical commodities.
This role is for someone who takes precision seriously, escalates early, and approaches their work with a process- improvement mindset. The desk is actively deploying AI tools to automate routine tasks — this person is expected to engage with those tools, validate their outputs, and help identify where they can do more. You do not need to build the tools; you need to use them well.
Securities setup is a meaningful and distinctive part of this role. Private placements, structured instruments, and alternative asset classes need to be correctly established in the book of record before they can trade — this person owns that process.
The Team
The Capital Markets & Trading team operates as a single unit across two functions: trading and trade operations. Both sides of the desk understand the full trade lifecycle — from execution through settlement — and cover each other when it counts. The expectation is not siloed expertise; it is shared ownership of outcomes. The Trading Operations Analyst works closely with the Senior Trading Operations Analyst, building deep knowledge of the post-trade function while developing a working understanding of the broader desk. This is a role with a clear path forward for the right person.
Responsibilities: What you will do/ What you will own
Settlement & Trade Operations
Manage the end-to-end daily settlement lifecycle across all asset classes — equities, fixed income, derivatives, FX, digital assets, and physical commodities
Coordinate trade matching via CTM; liaise directly with custodians and counterparties to resolve unmatched trades and settlement fails
Monitor settlement activity throughout the day; identify, investigate, and elevate material exceptions on the same business day
Manage collateral, margin, and funding processes in coordination with counterparties
Maintain an exception log with root-cause documentation for all material settlement breaks
Perform daily cash and position reconciliations — resolve breaks promptly and elevate anything material
Produce and distribute daily cash, position, and settlement status reports to the trading desk and relevant stakeholders
Maintain accurate records of all trading activity to support NAV calculations and fund accounting
Securities Setup & Book of Record
Set up and maintain securities prior to trading — private placements, structured notes, OTC instruments, and alternative asset classes
Ensure data integrity across all security records: positions, pricing, corporate actions, and reference data
Support the Senior Trading Operations Analyst in maintaining firm’s internal book of record
AI-Assisted Operations & Process Improvement
Use AI tools — such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot — to automate daily reporting, build exception dashboards, and reduce manual effort across recurring workflows
Review and validate AI-assisted reconciliation and settlement outputs — catch what the tools miss, document patterns, and upscale where intervention is needed
Contribute to workflow improvement — identify manual steps that can be automated and work with the Senior Trading Operations Analyst to build better processes
Corporate Actions & Proxy
Monitor and administer corporate actions across all fund holdings — elections, tracking, booking, and validation
Liaise with portfolio managers on elective corporate actions; administer proxy voting in accordance with fund policies
Qualifications: What you will bring
Experience
1–3 years of experience in trade settlement, operations, or fund administration at a bank, prime broker, custodian, or asset manager
Hands‑on experience with trade matching and the settlement lifecycle
Experience performing cash and position reconciliations and resolving breaks
Technical Skills
Proficiency with Bloomberg AIM or an equivalent OMS
Working knowledge of CTM or an equivalent trade matching platform
Comfortable using AI tools — such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot — to automate recurring tasks, build exception reports, and improve daily workflows; no coding background required
Robust Excel skills and familiarity with reconciliation or exception-reporting tools
Detail‑oriented and accurate — takes ownership of quality without needing oversight
Escalation discipline — surfaces material issues early, with context and a recommended next step
Organised under pressure — manages multiple daily deadlines without dropping threads
Process‑improvement mindset — notices inefficiency and looks for better ways to work
Collaborative and communicative — works openly within a small, fast-moving team
Preferred Qualifications
Experience setting up non-standard securities in an OMS — private placements, structured notes, or alternative instruments
Exposure to digital asset settlement or commodity settlement workflows
Familiarity with corporate actions processing and proxy voting administration
Knowledge of Canadian regulatory and custody requirements
