Track Inspector (Railway) – Prince George, BC

Location: Prince George, British Columbia

Employment Type: Full time

Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 annually (based on experience)

Travel: Up to 3 weeks per month with paid live-out allowance

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Track Inspector to join our team, based out of Prince George, BC. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of rail infrastructure across our operating territory. This is a travel-intensive position ideal for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining high safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed inspections of railway track infrastructure in accordance with Transport Canada Track Safety Rules , Track Inspector Guidelines , internal policies, and CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules) .

Identify, document, and report defects, irregularities, and unsafe conditions.

Recommend appropriate corrective actions and follow up to ensure deficiencies are resolved.

Perform routine track measurements, gauging, and geometry checks using approved tools and equipment.

Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports and maintain records of all findings.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, track maintenance crews, and operations personnel regarding track conditions and required work.

Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Participate in safety meetings, training sessions,



and ongoing professional development.

Support emergency response activities related to track conditions when required.

Travel Requirements

Must be willing and able to travel up to 3 weeks per month across various locations in British Columbia and/or Western Canada.

Live-out allowance provided for all travel requiring overnight stays.

Travel may include remote areas, variable weather conditions, and extended shifts depending on project needs.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in railway track inspection (required).

Strong knowledge of:

Track Inspector Guidelines

CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules)

Track infrastructure, components, and common defect types

Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferably the applicant will reside in the Prince George area, but will consider applicants throughout British Columbia.

Ability to travel extensively and work flexible hours.

Strong communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in various conditions.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to use various computer programs such as Excel, Word, Adobe and various online reporting platforms.
