Your Opportunity
Step into a leadership and education role supporting respiratory care across the inpatient wards and Emergency Department at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. As part of the Respiratory Therapy education and leadership team, you will advance clinical practice, build staff competency, and support safe, high quality pediatric respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Instructor (RTCI) supports frontline clinicians through orientation, continuing education, skills development, and real time clinical coaching. This role collaborates closely with Respiratory Therapists, physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary partners to support readiness for respiratory emergencies, acute deterioration, and evolving best practices.

What You’ll Do

Coordinate and deliver unit specific orientation and ongoing education

Support competency development and conduct skills validation and recertifications

Provide bedside coaching in fast paced inpatient and emergency settings

Support advanced respiratory therapies, airway management, and emergency response

Contribute to curriculum development, policy review, and practice evaluation

Support quality improvement, patient safety, and equipment implementation initiatives

This role supports evidence based practice, patient safety, and staff confidence while fostering a solid culture of learning. The position involves education delivery, bedside clinical support, computer work, and physical activity in clinical environments. This role may require extended periods of sitting, computer work, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as cross-coverage of other leadership roles as required.

Description
As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department,



as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education. You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Required Qualifications
Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.

Additional Required Qualifications

Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy.

Successful completion of CBRC exam.

Current Basic Life Support certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation is required.

3+ years recent pediatric acute care experience is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills are required.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing and delivering education in clinical or academic settings.

Training or experience in high‑fidelity simulation, scenario development, and structured debriefing.

Previous educator, preceptor, or mentorship experience.

Demonstrated leadership within clinical or quality initiatives.

Participation on committees, QI groups, or change management projects.

Evidence of advanced continuing education or professional development.

PALS certification.
