Job Description
Engineer in Training, Bridges is an early-career civil engineering role supporting the planning, design, inspection, and delivery of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects in Ottawa, ON, Canada . Working within multidisciplinary project teams, the position contributes to projects spanning conceptual development, detailed design, tender preparation, construction support, and post-construction services.

The role involves bridge and culvert engineering assignments, engineering documentation, technical reporting, field inspections, quantity take-offs, schedule development, and cost estimating activities. Project work is completed in accordance with applicable engineering standards, inspection requirements, and transportation infrastructure practices.





The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree, has up to four years of relevant engineering experience, and is pursuing or holds Professional Engineer licensing in Ontario. Exposure to bridge, culvert, transportation, or municipal infrastructure projects and strong technical communication skills are highly valued.

Assist with structural design and engineering analysis for bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.

Support bridge inspection and culvert inspection activities in accordance with applicable inspection standards and reporting requirements.

Prepare detailed engineering drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD.

Develop quantity estimates, construction schedules, and project cost estimates to support design and delivery activities.

Assist in preparing tender specifications and contract documentation for infrastructure projects.

Provide support for proposal writing and engineering service submissions.

Prepare technical reports, engineering memoranda, and project documentation for bridge and transportation assignments.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery throughout planning, design, tendering, and construction phases.

Participate in field investigations and site-related engineering activities as required.

Support project teams with additional engineering and technical reporting tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Required

University degree in Civil Engineering.

Up to 4 years of engineering experience; experience supporting transportation engineering projects is considered relevant.





Pursuing or holding Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensing in Ontario.

Knowledge of bridge, culvert, or transportation infrastructure engineering principles.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Experience preparing technical reports, engineering memoranda, and project documentation.

Experience developing quantity estimates, project schedules, and cost estimates.

Experience supporting tender specification preparation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and time-management skills.

Valid driver's license and access to a registered and insured vehicle.

Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Assets

Experience with transportation infrastructure design projects.

Proficiency using AutoCAD.

Exposure to bridge engineering projects and structural rehabilitation assignments.

Experience supporting construction-phase engineering services.

Familiarity with municipal, provincial, or transportation authority project requirements.

Exposure to engineering consulting environments and multidisciplinary project delivery.
