YWCA is seeking a Family Law Staff Lawyer to lead the Legal Education team, providing support for families in the child protection system. Focus on advocacy and education.
This position requires you to supervise legal staff and deliver direct services to clients confronting child apprehension issues. You will develop innovative educational workshops and hold weekly drop-in clinics to assist marginalized communities. Your role will also involve public engagement on family law topics and the management of budgetary responsibilities within the program.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and coach legal team members
• Offer legal advice during weekly community clinics
• Represent clients in selected child protection cases
• Create and facilitate educational workshops
• Oversee the program budget efficiently
Requirements:
• Juris Doctor with Indigenous competency training
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of colonial effects on family law
• Trauma-informed legal service mindset
• Explicit criminal background check required
