As our new Senior Environmental Project Manager and Qualified Person, you will play an important role on our Land Quality and Remediation team in the Greater Toronto Area.
Role In this position, you’ll take on project management and/or technical delivery responsibilities for a variety of programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites and excess soil management. With support and mentorship from SLR’s strong roster of senior staff, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of high-quality work to our varied clients including projects at a range of urban and remote sites including midstream, and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, federal and municipal owned sites, and provincial infrastructure sites (e.g., rail, road, power and other). Your knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our team and will see you working closely with your clients, maintaining satisfaction, building long-term relationships,
and helping grow our portfolio of work.
You’ll be involved in the full life cycle of projects including preparing proposals and work plans, coordinating and executing projects, providing technical leadership, managing budgets, client support and communication, data analysis and reviews, and reporting. Your role will be predominantly office based with opportunities to complete fieldwork according to your personal interest, to mentor junior and intermediate staff, and support the requirements of certain projects.

Responsibilities Effectively delegate and oversee project tasks to manage small technical groups and technical programs, including all facets of project delivery
Provide strategic technical direction and lead decision-making regarding project technical approaches
Communicate directly with clients to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction
Assist in mentoring junior and intermediate staff in project management/technical delivery/fieldwork/task management skills while at the same time being mentored by more senior professionals
Provide leadership in Health and Safety through open and positive communications with all staff
Participate in all facets of contaminated site projects including Phase I/One and II/Two Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and remediation projects, Excess Soil management during both design and construction phases, field sampling, and reporting
Develop and oversee field (data collection) programs involving sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapour and/or remediation system operation and maintenance, and preparation of reports
Filing RSCs and Notices on the Excess Soil Registry
Plan, report and track schedules and budgets, all as part of project financial management

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000+. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships Post‑Secondary degree in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related discipline (B.A.Sc., B.Sc., B.Eng., M,Sc., etc.)
Professional status (e.g. P.Eng, P.Geo) and designated a Qualified Person for Environmental Site Assessment per Ontario Regulation 153/04
Detailed knowledge of Ontario Regulations 153/04 and 406/19, and experience filing Records of Site Condition and completing filing on the Excess Soil Registry as a Qualified Person
Ideally 10+ years of experience in contaminated site work including managing and providing technical leadership for environmental site assessments (Phase I/One, II/Two, and III ESAs and Record of Site Conditions), soil and groundwater sampling, soil vapour assessment, excess soil management, and remediation programs
Experience working in the land development, infrastructure and/or construction management sector is a significant asset.
Experience writing proposals and responding to Requests for Proposal (RFPs)
Experience in client‑facing roles and direct client engagement and management preferred
Experience managing and providing technical direction for a variety of projects with multi‑disciplinary teams concurrently while meeting challenging deadlines would be preferred.
Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to construction sites, public infrastructure projects, oil and gas facilities, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites
Work well in small and large teams
Valid driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle required for occasional travel to job sites/client facilities
