Western University seeks a Technical Specialist to excel in GIS, enriching campus research and teaching. This position is fully on-site, fostering direct collaboration.
As part of Western Libraries, the Technical Specialist (GIS Specialist) supports faculty and student research through GIS technology. Your role involves not just providing expertise but also teaching essential GIS methods and techniques. You'll work on creative projects and support various academic initiatives related to geographic information.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee GIS program planning for the campus
• Contribute to research projects like the Northern Tornadoes Project
• Deliver instruction on GIS and data visualization techniques
• Assist with troubleshooting and client service in GIS applications
• Facilitate digital mapping efforts within the Digital Scholarship Centre
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or relevant area
• 2 years’ experience in GIS, especially with QGIS and ArcGIS
• In-depth knowledge of Esri software and cartography
• Experience as an ArcGIS Online Administrator
• Strong communication and customer service skills
