WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is funded by the Ministry of Health and supports new Registered Nurses (RN's) as they transition from education to professional practice. Through mentorship, structured orientation, and hands-on clinical experience, new graduates gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive in their first nursing role.
The program consists of:
12-week supported transition-to-practice program
Dedicated mentorship and clinical coaching
Intensive Care Unit placement at STEGH
Ministry of Health funded initiative
Opportunities for full-time employment following completion
Recruitment beginning April 2026
Support new nurses in Ontario as they transition into practice
Improve the integration of new nurses into the workforce
Promote the availability of full time employment hours for new nurses; and
Promote health workforce planning at the organizational level.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
Canadian-educated nurses who:
Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a program in Canada
Have not been employed as a nurse (RN) in Ontario in the six (6) months prior to participating in the NGG program
Match with STEGH on the NGG online portal within 12 months of obtaining their CNO license
Are legally eligible to work full-time in Ontario
Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with STEGH after completing the NGG program transition into practice period
Internationally educated nurses (IENs) who:
Completed their nursing education outside of Canada
Have not been employed as a nurse (RN) in Ontario in the six (6) months prior to participating in the NGG program
Match with STEGH on the NGG online portal within 12 months of obtaining their CNO license
Are legally eligible to work full-time in Ontario
Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with STEGH after completing the NGG program transition into practice period
Current BLS Certification
The new nurse must have a valid CNO license, either in the Temporary or General Class, before beginning the NGG program transition into practice period.
Ability to adapt to changes in assignment throughout a shift, follow instructions and conduct yourself professionally.
Open to change and is proactive to departmental initiatives.
Ability to work alone, prioritize and take initiative – self-motivated.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop trusting internal and external relationships
Physical ability to perform assigned duties.
Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program
Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and code of conduct
