About the Opportunity Waterloo Biofilter Systems Inc. is looking for full-time Control Panel & Instrumentation Specialist based in Guelph, Ontario .
Reporting to the Head of Production, you will take ownership of the design, programming, production, documentation, and ongoing technical support of control panels and monitoring systems used in onsite wastewater treatment applications.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for developing PLC-based and IoT-enabled control systems, coordinating panel builds and instrumentation, and troubleshooting technical issues across new and existing installations.
More specifically,
your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Designing, developing, integrating, and testing PLC-based and IoT-enabled control systems
Programming and configuring PLCs, HMIs, IoT gateways, VFDs, sensors, and related instrumentation
Producing electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, BOMs, manuals, and technical documentation
Overseeing control panel and instrumentation production through internal staff and external vendors
Selecting and sourcing control panels, electrical components, sensors, drives, and related assemblies
Coordinating panel builds, component ordering, inventory records, and delivery schedules
Providing technical support to engineers, technicians, installers, contractors, and customers
Attending occasional site visits for commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, repairs, retrofits, and upgrades
About You To qualify, you will need a degree in Electrical Engineering, a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology , or equivalent practical experience, with 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, control panel design, instrumentation , or a related technical field.
The following skills and background will be highly valued:
Experience designing, developing, integrating, and testing PLC-based control systems
PLC & HMI programming experience using ladder logic, structured text, C/C++, or VHDL
Familiarity with platforms such as Schneider/Modicon, Unitronics, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or Wago
Knowledge of IoT monitoring systems, connectivity, data handling, visualization, alarms, and notifications
Experience integrating VFDs, sensors, flowmeters,
IoT gateways, relays, contactors, and other motor control devices
Knowledge of analog and digital signals and protocols, including 0-5V, 4-20mA, Modbus, TCP/IP, CAN, UART, or I2C
Experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, I/O sheets, BOMs, and technical manuals using AutoCAD
Hands-on experience building, wiring, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, or repairing electrical and electronic equipment
Familiarity with panel shop operations, control panel production, UL508A, CSA standards, or the Canadian Electrical Code
Exposure to water, wastewater, pumping systems, process automation, or similar industrial applications
