Looking for an exciting and rewarding job that lets you stay active, help others, and be part of a fantastic team? The City of Kamloops is hiring a permanent, on-call Lifeguard to join our vibrant crew of aquatics professionals and yes, you’ll also get to teach swimming lessons!
As a Lifeguard, you’ll be at the heart of our aquatic facilities, keeping swimmers safe and sharing essential water safety and swim skills with people of all ages. Whether you're watching over a busy pool deck or guiding a toddler through their first swim class, you’ll be making a real impact in our community.

Save the Date – Important Hiring Steps
We’re excited you’re interested in joining our team! Please make sure you're available for the following important dates:
- Qualifications Due - Monday, August 31, 2026
- Wet Interview – Saturday, September 19, 2026 (10am to approximately 2:30pm)
Come ready to teach a 5-minute dry session in the classroom to a group of your peers. It can be any topic or skill of your choosing.
Bring: Swim gear, a pocket mask, snacks, and water.
- In-Person Interview – Interviews will be conducted on Thursday, September 24, Friday, September 25 and Monday, September 28. You must be available for one of these days if you pass the Wet Interview.
- Orientation Sessions (for successful candidates):
- Sessions will be held on Oct 23, Oct 25, Oct 26 and Oct 27, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM,
with one additional evening session from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Candidates must be available during these dates. Please note that specific times and days within this range may vary.
Mark your calendar and plan ahead—we’re excited to welcome you and get started!
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
1. Minimum age is 16 years old.
2. Current National Lifeguard (NL) Award - Pool Option.
3. Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certificate.
4. Current Basic First Aid Certificate.
For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check.
This is a unionized position with CUPE Local 900; check out our City of Kamloops Collective Agreement - CUPE Local 900 for full details (ratified 2026 Collective Agreement coming soon). As this is a unionized position, all qualifications must be met in order to be shortlisted for the position.
This position will receive 14% in lieu of all benefits, vacation, stat holidays, and health time.
