Compensation Pay Range: $41.85-$51.77
POSITION SUMMARY The role of the respiratory therapist in the Ambulatory Care PSU involves responsibilities in Ambulatory Care and in Critical Care.
Responsibilities include: assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating patient care for respiratory patients throughout the hospital and for patient who are technology dependent and/or have sleep-disorder breathing in the sleep lab.
On a rotational basis the respiratory therapist is a member of the multidisciplinary team within sleep lab, critical care, inpatient and emergency.
The successful candidate will: Provide diagnostic testing including polysomnography: both acquisition and scoring of studies.
Assess and titrate patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Utilize clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways, medical directives, hospital policies and procedures to promote and implement evidence based practice.
Implement respiratory care including patient assessment, oxygen therapy, airway management, ventilatory management, diagnostic testing and patient transport.
Utilize clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways, medical directives, hospital policies and procedures to promote and implement evidence based practice.
Administer medication via inhalation as per medical directives or physician order.
Anticipate and prepare for emergencies.
Ensure safe and effective application of precise respiratory technological equipment to meet determined patient care goals.
Collaborate with other team members with the planning and organization of the sleep lab.
Provide patient and family support and education.
Participates in several interdisciplinary teams providing advice on respiratory management.
Contribute to the orientation and education of various members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate.
Participate in quality assurance, research activities and workload measurement as appropriate.
Demonstrate a commitment to professional respiratory therapy practice.
Preceptor students from respiratory therapy educational programs.
QUALIFICATIONS Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential).
Member of the College of Respiratory Therapy (General Certificate) (Essential).
BCLS (Essential).
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and collaborative practice skills (Essential).




Demonstrated commitment to continuing education, including independent learning (Essential).
Degree in Health Sciences or related field (Preferred).
Member in good standing of the RTSO (Preferred).
Member in good standing of the CRST (Preferred).
PALS & NRP certification (Preferred).
Minimum 3 years pediatric respiratory care experience (Preferred).
Experience in sleep laboratory (Preferred).
Bilingualism (English/French) (Essential).
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPGST) or eligibility (Essential).
Timeline may be extended or shortened based on operational needs. Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). Please note that this position will be based out of Ottawa. Please note that location may be subject to change at any time at the discretion of the employer.
