Our goal is to provide homeowners and contractors with practical, understandable, and code-compliant engineering solutions that can be efficiently constructed and permitted.
We are a small firm built around professionalism, independence, and work-life balance. We are looking for a self-motivated Professional Engineer who has strong residential structural engineering experience and is comfortable managing projects from the initial site visit through calculations, drawings, and final engineering deliverables.
The Role
This is a full-time hybrid position based in the Greater Edmonton Area.
The successful candidate will work primarily from a home office while completing residential site inspections throughout Edmonton and surrounding communities.
This is a hands‑on residential engineering position. You will regularly visit homes, assess existing structures, complete structural calculations, develop practical solutions, and prepare the engineering documentation required for renovations, repairs, and permit applications.
Applicants must be available Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle are required for site visits.
Compensation
$100,000 – $130,000 per year , commensurate with experience
Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and detailed calculations for residential projects
Conduct residential structural inspections throughout Edmonton and surrounding communities
Assess existing homes and identify practical solutions to structural issues
Complete structural engineering for home renovations and additions
Design structural modifications for load‑bearing wall removals
Size residential beams, columns, posts, headers, lintels, and supporting elements
Design wood, steel, and concrete structural components
Review and design floor, roof, and wall framing modifications
Complete foundation inspections and structural assessments
Design foundation repairs and modifications
Evaluate cracking, settlement, movement, and other residential structural concerns
Complete structural engineering for decks, balconies, pergolas, and similar residential structures
Design retaining walls
Complete screw pile design, installation verification, and conformance reviews (training provided where required)
Prepare and review permit‑ready structural drawings using CAD software
Prepare engineering letters, reports, calculations, and supporting documentation
Review construction for general conformance with engineering drawings and recommendations
Ensure designs comply with applicable Alberta building codes and Canadian structural design standards
Work directly with homeowners to explain structural issues and recommended solutions
Collaborate with residential contractors, renovators, designers, architects, and builders
Manage assigned residential projects from initial inspection through final deliverables
Respond to contractor and client questions during construction
Complete miscellaneous residential structural engineering tasks as required
Qualifications
Active Qualified Engineer (P.Eng) registration in Alberta or eligibility to obtain registration with APEGA
Must reside in the Greater Edmonton Area
3–10 years of structural engineering experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized Canadian university
Previous residential structural engineering experience is strongly preferred
Experience inspecting and evaluating existing residential structures
Experience with residential renovations, additions, and structural modifications
Strong knowledge of wood‑frame residential construction
Experience designing wood, steel, and concrete structural components
Experience with load‑bearing wall removals, beam sizing, and residential framing modifications
Experience assessing residential foundations and structural concerns
Strong understanding of structural analysis and engineering calculations
Proficiency with CAD software and structural engineering tools
Familiarity with applicable Alberta building code requirements and Canadian design standards
Ability to develop practical engineering solutions that contractors can efficiently construct
Comfortable communicating directly with homeowners and explaining technical issues in straightforward terms
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to work independently and manage multiple residential projects simultaneously
Experience with screw piles or residential foundation systems is an asset
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle
