Support at-risk youth as a Full-Time Street Outreach Worker with Covenant House in Downtown Toronto. Engage compassionately with youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness in various community settings.
The Outreach Worker role involves direct service to youth, focusing on building rapport using harm reduction and trauma-informed strategies. You will provide immediate assistance with food, clothing, and essential services, while connecting young people to long-term support systems, including housing and educational opportunities. Maintaining safety and skilled boundaries is vital.
Key Responsibilities:
• Engage youth in community settings and adult shelters
• Offer basic needs and crisis support while on the streets
• Distribute harm reduction tools, including naloxone kits
• Assist with accessing external housing and legal services
• Maintain relations with local businesses for community engagement
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
• At least 2 years supporting vulnerable populations
• Working knowledge of community-based resources
• Experience with de-escalation techniques
• Commitment to anti-racist and social justice practices
