Participate in the City of Maple Ridge's urban forestry externship for Master of Urban Forestry Leadership students from UBC, starting Fall 2026. This hands-on, unpaid opportunity allows you to foster a deeper understanding of municipal green initiatives.
This placement supports your academic growth while actively contributing to the Urban Forest Management Plan. You will engage in diverse projects that build knowledge in community greening and climate adaptation. Collaborate with municipal teams and work on actionable projects that enhance urban forestry efforts within Maple Ridge.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inform development of a City tree policy
• Research grant opportunities and funding calendars
• Develop species profiles based on nursery trends
• Identify tree planting locations for future projects
• Support community stewardship plans for events
Requirements:
• Must be enrolled in the UBC program
• Robust organizational and communication skills
• Initiative and the ability to work well in teams
• Basic understanding of urban forestry
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
