Group 6 - $28.02 to $32.94 per hour

Certified instructors are invited to join our Parks and Recreation team to deliver high-quality fitness, wellness, and recreation programs across the city. As part of our instructor talent pool, you'll play a key role in helping residents stay active, healthy, and connected through dynamic and inclusive programming.
Main Function
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position is responsible to design a class format (e.g. yoga, etc.) that encourages safety and class participation and to deliver the program.
Duties
Design a class format that encourages safety and class participation and to deliver the program (e.g. yoga, etc.).
Perform proper techniques as to not cause injury or harm to any pupil in the class.
Instruct at the appropriate level for each class.
Be attentive and alert to the regards of all pupils in the class.
Provide supervision and guidance to Leisure Instructors assisting with class delivery as required.
Assist in the cleaning and general maintenance of the hall and ensure that equipment is maintained and properly set up.
Responsible for being aware of the recreation facility policies.
Inform Immediate Supervisor of any misconduct by a pupil in the class.
Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of City's Health and Safety policies and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Training
Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
Experience
Two and one-half (2.5) up to and including five (5) years of related fitness instruction experience.
Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
For Fitness or Yoga Instructor – YMCA Fitness Instructors Certificate or Fitness Ontario Leadership Program or equivalent certification plus Specialty Course specific to program. Body Composition certification considered an asset.
Other Requirements
Demonstrate ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner.
Demonstrate participation in continuing education courses and workshops.
Demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and goals of City's fitness programs.
Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
French verbal skills an asset.
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability in meeting job responsibilities.
Provide at own cost, a Criminal Records Check.
Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class G driver's licence, and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity range of pay: $27.48 to $31.74 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
