Position Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Residential Care and Francophone Services, the Residential Team Lead is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of activities and ensures the delivery of high‑quality care to residents, as well as to their families and caregivers, primarily at Maison de l’Est. The Residential Team Lead supervises unionized members of the care team, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Personal Support Workers (PSWs). This role combines clinical practice, leadership, program management, and team development in a palliative care setting.

En la direction de la directrice des soins en résidence et des services francophones, le ou la chef(fe) d’équipe en résidence assure la gestion quotidienne des activités et veille à la prestation de soins de grande qualité aux résidents ainsi qu’à leurs familles et proches aidants, principalement à la Maison de l’Est. Il ou elle encadre les membres syndiqués de l’équipe de soins, incluant les infirmiers et infirmières autorisés, les infirmiers et infirmières auxiliaires autorisés et les préposé(e)s aux services de soutien personnel. Ce rôle conjugue pratique clinique, leadership, gestion de programmes et développement de l’équipe dans un contexte de soins palliatifs.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Program Leadership

- Oversee all aspects of resident care, ensuring evidence‑based, client‑centered practice
- Coordinate and oversee admissions in collaboration with the Admissions Coordinator
- Ensure care plans are developed, implemented, and regularly reviewed
- Lead and support the interdisciplinary care team (residence staff, physicians, counsellors, volunteers)
- Participate in weekly rounds to review resident care plans and address concerns
- Support residents and families with end‑of‑life care needs
- Oversee medication management and incident reporting




- Monitor quality of care through regular audits and continuous improvement practices
- Ensure appropriate supply management within the residence

Team Leadership & Human Resources

- Supervise, mentor, and support nursing and care staff in a unionized environment
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
- Support recruitment, orientation, and training of new staff
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful workplace culture
- Participate in scheduling coordination and on‑call rotation

Organizational Contribution

- Contribute to quality improvement, risk management, and health & safety initiatives
- Participate in committees, training, and organizational events
- Support accreditation activities and continuous program development
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and achieve program goals

Qualifications

Education & Certification

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or College Diploma in Practical Nursing
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- CHPCNC – Certified in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing Canada
- LEAP Certificate (Learning Essential Approaches in Palliative Care), or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hiring
- Current CPR/BLS certification

Experience

- Minimum 3 years of hospice palliative care experience
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience working in a unionized environment preferred

Skills & Competencies

- Strong clinical knowledge in palliative and end‑of‑life care
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills




- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced workplace
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
- Commitment to person‑centered, compassionate care
- Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Bilingualism (English/French) required

Additional Requirements

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Flexibility to work varied hours and on‑call shifts

Employment Details

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Residence Care and Francophone Services

Position Status: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Position Schedule: 37.5 hours weekly, 5 days worked; may require occasional evenings and weekends

Compensation: $43.98 an hour. Eligible for Group Advantages after 90 days. Eligible for paid personal/sick leave.

Location of Work: La Maison de l’Est 380 LeBoutillier Ave

Travel: May be required to travel within Ottawa area to all Hospice Care Ottawa sites.

Language of Work: Bilingualism (French and English) required

Vulnerable Sector Check: Required
