in crisis situationRead and initial Communication Log daily as part of a team effort to coordinate the plan and progress of clientsRecord in client file pertinent information concerning children's programmingCreate and develop quality programs and activities for childrenPlan and implement appropriate age-based activitiesRepresent the Centre at public speaking engagements, community groups and other areas as requested.Provide themed activities throughout the year for a diverse populationCreate a program calendar to inform the children and youth of activitiesAttend staff meetings, planning committees and staff development eventsAssist with all special eventsAssist with effective risk management; provide emergency firstaid and file incident reports as requiredRole model appropriate behavior and attitude supporting growth and promoting positive behaviorEnsure multipurpose room is free of articles that would be harmful to children and ensure equipment is in good condition to ensure safetyEnsure all sports equipment relating to the multipurpose room is stored appropriately and securedInteract with parent in a supportive, non-judgmental mannerMay network with other community agencies for the benefit of the child and youth programmingMay provide transportation for children & youth to field trip sitesWork with volunteer's during children's programs and outingsActively involved in on-going professional developmentComplete stats for child & youth groups and programsPerform other duties as assignedOrganizational ResponsibilitiesRead and adhere to the Centre's Employee Handbook and Policy and Procedure ManualAdhere to standards that are consistent with the values & philosophy of The Salvation Army.Engage in formal Evaluations Sessions with Supervisor at 3 months during first year of employment and monthly supervisions thereafterAgree to and sign Confidentiality statementFunction as a member of a multi-disciplinary teamAdhere to the Centre's Health and Safety RegulationsMake suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Management.Represent the organization in a professional manner and attitude.Physical Effort/Dexterity RequiredThe performance of the job requires a moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping, and running, walking, climbing stairs etc...And standingMust have positive physical stamina and be able to lift 20lbsEssential Skills And QualificationsMust have a Child & Youth Worker Diploma, Social Sciences Field or EquivalentMinimum 2 years' experience working with children & youthProgram planning experienceStrong organizational skillsKnowledge and experience of child and youth related issuesUnderstanding of Family ViolenceValid WHMIS and First Aid and CPR certificationValid Class 'G' Driver's LicenseAbility to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.E., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a vulnerable sector check search.**See Precautionary MeasuresCompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $26.61 to $26.61 with a maximum of $26.61.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
