Lead Piping Engineering Department: Piping Engineering

We are seeking a
Senior Piping Engineer
who brings strong technical expertise, project leadership, and a collaborative mindset. In this role, you will lead piping engineering activities on complex oil and gas facilities projects, supporting multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems. What You’ll Do As a
Senior Piping Engineer , you will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems. Your role will include:
Technical Leadership
Lead the development and execution of piping engineering deliverables for oil and gas facilities projects
Serve as a subject matter expert for piping design, specifications, materials, and installations
Develop, review, and approve piping specifications, line designation tables, material requisitions, isometrics, and specialty item specifications
Support the development of engineering standards, procedures, and best practices
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, CSA Z662, and client specifications
Team Leadership & Team Collaboration
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior and intermediate piping engineers
Coordinate closely with piping design, stress, mechanical, project management, and supply chain teams
Support resource planning, engineering estimates, workload forecasting, and project staffing requirements
Participate in multidisciplinary reviews and resolve technical and interface issues
Foster collaboration across global project teams and workshare offices
Project Execution & Delivery
Contribute to project documentation including Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs), project execution plans, scopes of work, and engineering estimates
Support project delivery by ensuring piping engineering deliverables meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements
Participate in 30%, 60%, and 90% model reviews to optimize piping layouts and arrangements
Review and manage client requirements, technical expectations, and project changes
Support procurement activities including material requisitions, vendor reviews, and technical evaluations
Construction & Field Support
Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities
Participate in field reviews and inspections of piping systems and installations
Respond to RFIs, field queries, and technical issues related to piping systems
Work with inspectors, clients, contractors, and project teams to resolve field-level concerns
Support as-building and verification of installed systems as required
Safety,
Quality & Compliance
Promote safe design practices and maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental performance
Ensure adherence to engineering quality management processes and verification procedures
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the piping engineering discipline
Maintain compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
About You
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline (required)
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA (required)
Minimum 15 years of oil and gas experience with significant EPCM project exposure
Strong leadership and mentoring experience within engineering teams
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality engineering outcomes
Technical Expertise
Advanced knowledge of piping engineering for oil and gas facilities
Extensive experience with ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8 design codes
Expert knowledge of CSA Z662 above-ground piping design
Experience with pressure piping systems and regulatory requirements
Understanding of metallurgy and materials selection for corrosive and high-temperature service is considered an asset
Knowledge of welding procedures, procedure qualification requirements, and NDE methodologies is considered an asset
Design experience with steam and boiler piping systems is considered an asset
Exposure to pipeline engineering is considered an asset
Broad experience supporting natural gas, conventional oil, and heavy oil facilities
Software Proficiency
Familiarity with piping design software and engineering tools
Experience with CAD and 3D piping modeling systems considered an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
Familiarity with engineering document management and material management systems
