KIND AND LEVEL OF WORK
The Branch Librarian, employed by Wapiti Regional Library, is responsible for the delivery of public library service to the community. All operational and administrative library duties are the responsibility of the Branch Librarian. They are thoroughly knowledgeable of library policies and procedures plus have a comprehensive understanding of the region. They work with minimal supervision. Work methods are governed by established procedures, but the employee must be able to exercise independent judgment, initiative and work cooperatively with others. Accuracy is essential. The Branch Librarian acts as secretary to the local board, and must be able to plan, schedule, train and supervise staff. They must demonstrate leadership skills, promote the library, and work effectively with the board and public.
DUTIES
- Attend all board meetings and act as recording secretary to the local board and committees.
- Responsible for the productive operation of the library as established in the Wapiti Branch Manual.
- Responsible for preparing accurate minutes, statistics and reports.
- Assist the board in preparation of the local library budget.
- Responsible for library programs and special events plus actively promote the library through regular contact with community groups, schools, and local councils.
- Participate in staff training (i.e. Branch Workshop) and any other duties as assigned by the local library board.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & SKILLS
- Completion of grade twelve (12) or G.E.D.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and positively.
- Ability to teach, supervise, delegate tasks and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Accurate clerical and bookkeeping skills.
- Present an acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
