Job Profile
The Building Servicer 2 Arena Attendant is a semi‑skilled role in an ice arena environment. The position involves customer interaction, organization, and independent teamwork to meet operational needs of a single arena facility. Responsibilities include operating ice maintenance equipment, custodial duties, equipment maintenance, safety monitoring, customer service, and inventory management.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain ice maintenance equipment (Zamboni and ice Edger) and perform vehicle and equipment checks.
- Inspect equipment, check all fluids, and complete pre‑ and post‑use reports/records.
- Safely operate hand and power tools as required.
- Perform daily custodial duties (clean player boxes, arena glass, dressing room, lobby, washrooms, spectator areas).
- Use backpack blower and snowblower to clean walkways and entrances.
- Monitor the arena for unsafe conditions, report or correct irregularities.
- Identify and record deficiencies for prompt repairs.
- Follow safety rules and regulations, remain aware of safety procedures.
- Respond to customer service requests and provide corrective action.
- Open the facility and conduct safety checks and routine building duties.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance performance.
- Maintain vehicle and arena inventory, ensuring supplies are available.
- Maintain building security systems daily.
- Assist in training new employees through procedural demonstration.
- Perform related duties, work overtime and shifts as required.
Qualifications
- Experience with custodial duties and cleaning equipment.
- Experience with hand and power tools,
custodial equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, HVAC systems, and components.
- Problem‑solving skills and sound decision making.
- Ability to deal satisfactorily with staff and the public.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan and organize work effectively.
- Ability to delegate tasks and provide direction to junior staff.
- Verbal communication skills for understanding and conveying instructions.
- Written communication skills for producing explicit and concise documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Knowledge of materials, chemicals, and safe handling practices (WHMIS).
- Knowledge of safe working methods and applicable safety regulations.
Conditions of Employment
- Must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Power Engineer’s Refrigeration Class (W ticket) or 4th class or better Power Engineering certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Arcane work operates 7 days a week; must work various shifts including days, evenings, and overnight, and be willing to move locations as directed.
- Must possess a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR‑C or equivalent, or obtain within three months.
- Must be physically capable of performing all duties in all weather conditions, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
