Company Overview
British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) operates the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain Lines, connecting downtown Vancouver to surrounding cities. With ongoing expansion and significant infrastructure projects, BCRTC seeks dedicated employees to join a team of over 1,200 professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist technicians and service personnel in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of vehicle department support equipment (excluding SSV, NRV, and SST).
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in the vehicle department under supervision.
- Maintain shop cleanliness and perform general shop upkeep.
- Operate BCRTC NRV with a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Use hand and power tools for basic support equipment maintenance.
- Attend technical and safety training as required.
- Respond to emergencies with immediate action in accordance with established procedures.
Safety Requirements
Carry out an annual fit test and, if required, use a respirator. Maintain a clean-shaven appearance. Exemptions must be requested through Occupational Health or Labour Relations.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience in an industrial or maintenance environment.
- Preferred experience in rail maintenance.
- Physical fitness to lift, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions, including prolonged standing.
- Ability to work shifts and manage a high volume of work during peak hours.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Effective time‑management and organizational skills.
Work Details
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Designation: Resident – primarily on‑site
Rate of Pay
Wage: $38.67 per hour (6‑week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate). Compensation package includes extended health, dental, transit pass, Public Service Pension Plan enrollment, tuition reimbursement, training, mentorship, and wellness programs.
