Overview
BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) protects British Columbians by regulating the province’s financial services sector, including credit unions, real estate licensees, registered pension plans, insurance and trust companies, and mortgage brokers. As a Communications Specialist (12‑month contract), you will develop and coordinate communications materials that support BCFSA’s regulatory and consumer‑education mission.

Responsibilities
- Liaise with teams across the organization to understand communications needs and implement strategies.
- Produce content for regulated entities, consumers, social media, news media, and the public.
- Review internal and external communications (regulatory instruments, website copy, email/newsletter) to ensure they meet BCFSA’s style and brand guidelines.
- Manage the corporate communications planning tool and calendar, keeping stakeholders informed of deliverables and timelines.
- Develop articles, news releases, social media content, and media pitches; respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews.
- Write copy for owned, earned, and paid media channels – including the intranet – to enhance brand visibility and audience engagement.
- Monitor media coverage and industry trends,
providing insights and recommendations to improve communication strategies.
- Provide feedback to project teams and subject matter experts to streamline and clarify communications.
- Boost brand awareness and visibility through keyword research, audience engagement, and search‑engine optimisation.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a communications role, developing diverse materials (plans, key messages, news releases, social media, website content).
- 3–5 years of copy‑writing and editing experience with a proven track record.
- Background in journalism, media relations, or public relations.
- Experience in financial services or a regulatory environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of CP style, accessibility standards, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Prior experience managing and leading communication programmes and projects.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
