Lead the team that protects the public trust in British Columbia's notarial professionAbout the SocietyThe Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia (SNPBC) is the governing body responsible for the licensing and regulation of Notaries Public in British Columbia. Guided by the Notaries Act, the Society sets and enforces the standards of competence and conduct that protect the public interest and maintain confidence in the notarial profession.The OpportunityThe Associate Director, Investigations & Discipline leads the Society's Complaints and Discipline department, overseeing the complaints and discipline process and the member trust audit program — the core of the Society's public protection mandate. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Discipline Committee, the Audit Committee, and senior management, you will bring sound judgment, strong analytical and communication skills, and genuine care for fair and consistent regulatory process to some of the Society's most sensitive and consequential work.This is a role for someone who wants regulatory work with real impact — leading a team, shaping policy and practice, and representing the Society at hearings and before its committees and directors.What You'll DoDiscipline & InvestigationsAssess complaints and recommend disciplinary action; advise the Discipline Committee on preliminary inquiriesDraft Notices of Hearing, compile evidence, and prepare witnessesPresent on behalf of the Society at disciplinary and penalty hearings,
and before the directorsOversee the negotiation of Agreed Statements of Fact for less serious mattersMonitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to professional disciplineMember Trust AuditDirect the annual member audit program in partnership with external auditorsReview audit outcomes and determine appropriate next steps, including referrals to the Audit CommitteeLeadershipSupervise the Manager, Investigations; and Manager, Legal Compliance and Discipline; Provide strategic advice to the Executive Director and Board committees on public protection and complianceContribute to the ongoing development of discipline and audit policyWhat You BringA law degree, or a related degree with equivalent experience in professional regulation, discipline, or compliance5+ years of relevant experience, ideally with a regulatory body, law society, or similar public-protection mandateExperience presenting cases or evidence before a committee, panel, or tribunalWorking knowledge of administrative law principles and rules of evidenceDemonstrated staff supervision and people-leadership experienceExceptional written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgment in sensitive, high-stakes mattersWhy Join the SocietyWe offer a competitive total rewards package designed to support our employees' well-being and professional success, including comprehensive health and dental perks, coverage of professional membership dues and development opportunities.We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected foran interview will be contacted.
