We’re hiring a safety-minded Maintenance Mechanic to join operations at a major wastewater treatment facility in Richmond, BC (Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant). This site is critical to protecting public health and the environment, supporting wastewater treatment across the Metro Vancouver region.
In this role, you’ll be part of a highly skilled mechanical maintenance team focused on the reliability, performance, and safe operation of large‑scale industrial equipment and infrastructure. The work is hands‑on and plays a direct role in keeping essential services running smoothly.

Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Richmond, BC – Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant
Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent
Department: Liquid Waste Services
Union: GVRDEU (Unionized Environment)
Schedule: Shift work required (Monday–Friday operations, additional shifts as required)
Wage: $47.88/hour + 6.25% deferred compensation (redeemable as pay or time off)
Qualification Requirement: Grade 12 (or equivalent)
Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright Trade Qualification (required) – Red Seal is an asset
Eligibility: You are currently located in and legally permitted to work full‑time in British Columbia

Responsibilities
- Install, align, maintain, and repair large‑scale industrial mechanical equipment
- Service and troubleshoot diesel/gas engines, pumps, compressors, blowers, turbines, conveyors, and related systems
- Maintain and repair valves, meters, piping systems, and mechanical components throughout the facility
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and corrective repairs on plant equipment
- Diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective repair solutions
- Support installation and alignment of mechanical systems to tight tolerances
- Maintain engine and equipment service records and documentation
- Assist with troubleshooting plant operational issues reported by operators
- Support minor welding and assist welders with layout and maintenance tasks
- Train and support junior mechanics and apprentices as required
- Maintain tools, parts inventory, and organized workspaces
- Follow all safety procedures, WCB regulations, and municipal safety standards
- Participate in Safe Work Procedures development and compliance activities
- May act in a lead capacity or supervisor backup when required
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education (or equivalent)
- Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright Trade Qualification (required)
- Minimum 4 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge of pumps, engines, compressors, and mechanical systems
- Experience working in industrial, utility, or infrastructure environments (strong asset)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Skilled in use of hand tools, power tools, machining tools, and measuring instruments
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, CMMS systems)
- Physically capable of performing manual and industrial trade duties
- Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean drivers abstract
