About Pacific Tutorials
At Pacific Tutorials, we believe strong Biology learning is about more than memorizing terminology, diagrams, and processes. Students need to understand how biological systems work, how concepts connect, and how to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar questions independently.
Our tutoring is primarily one-on-one and personalized. We work with passion, preparation, and purpose, and we expect our tutors to bring the same commitment to every student they teach.
We are looking for a passionate Biology Tutor to support high-school students studying OSSD, IB, and AP Biology across Canada and the United States.
The Tutor We Are Looking For
We are not simply looking for someone who knows Biology. We are looking for someone who can teach it well.
At Pacific Tutorials, an excellent Biology tutor:
- Builds conceptual understanding rather than relying solely on memorization.
- Helps students understand biological processes, relationships, and systems rather than simply recall terminology.
- Encourages students to explain how and why biological processes occur.
- Identifies foundational gaps and misconceptions that may be affecting more advanced learning.
- Uses diagrams, models, examples, comparisons, and real-world connections to make complex concepts understandable.
- Helps students interpret scientific data, graphs, experiments, and evidence.
- Adapts explanations and difficulty levels to the individual student.
- Comes prepared and takes ownership of the quality of each session.
- Helps students become increasingly confident and independent learners.
We want students to move from “What do I need to memorize?” to “I understand how this works and can explain it.”
What You’ll Do
- Provide personalized one-on-one online Biology tutoring to high-school students in Canada and the United States.
- Support students following OSSD, IB, and AP Biology curricula.
- Teach concepts across cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, evolution, ecology, human physiology, biochemistry, homeostasis, biodiversity,
and other curriculum-specific topics within your areas of expertise.
- Help students connect biological concepts across different units and levels of organization.
- Guide students through diagrams, scientific data, experimental design, graphs, application-based questions, and written scientific responses.
- Develop students' ability to analyze information, use evidence, and explain biological processes clearly.
- Identify learning gaps and adapt instruction to each student's needs and academic goals.
- Support coursework, assessments, test preparation, and examination readiness.
- Prepare appropriately for sessions and track relevant student progress.
- Maintain professional, reliable, and consistent communication.
What We’re Looking For We welcome applications from university students, graduates, educators, and professionals with a strong background in Biology or a related scientific discipline.
- Currently pursuing or having completed post-secondary studies in Biology, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Health Sciences, Neuroscience, Environmental Science, or another closely related field.
- Strong command of high-school Biology within the courses you intend to tutor.
- Familiarity with OSSD, IB, and/or AP Biology; experience studying, teaching, or tutoring these curricula is an asset.
- Strong scientific reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to explain complex biological systems and processes rather than relying solely on memorization.
- Ability to interpret and teach scientific diagrams, data, graphs, and experimental concepts.
- Ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and in multiple ways when necessary.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Reliable, organized, prepared, and comfortable teaching online.
- Genuine interest in teaching and helping students grow.
Previous tutoring or teaching experience is an asset, but it is not mandatory. Robust subject knowledge, communication skills, preparation, and the ability to teach effectively matter more to us than years of experience. Why Join Pacific Tutorials?
