Nature of the Work & Responsibilities

NATURE OF THE WORK:

The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, field work and workshops.

Specifically, the laboratory technician will be involved in the theatre productions of the department. Secondary functions may include work for the Audio-Visual Services of the College.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist the Skilled Theatre Program teachers in the mounting of productions;
- Prepare a prompt script;
- Organize and prepare rehearsal schedules;
- Attend pre-rehearsal meetings, production and other meetings with director and team, as needed;
- Assist teachers with the running of rehearsals;
- Organize and supervise crew calls, as needed;
- Gather and prepare props and costumes;
- Prepare and finalize paperwork related to the productions;
- Prepare for technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances;
- Call technical cues (“call the show”) during the production;
- Dismantle and discard the show (“strike the show”) following the end of the production;
- Supervise students;
- Perform other related duties.

Qualifications & Conditions

QUALIFICATIONS:

To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.





CONDITIONS:

- Proven knowledge of technical theatre, stage craft and professional stage management;
- Demonstrated knowledge of theater productions including running technical, audio-visual and multimedia equipment;
- Advanced interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Advanced oral and written English communication skills (testing may be required);
- Basic oral French communication skills (testing may be required);
- Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills (testing may be required);
