As an Academic Instructor Support, you will provide administrative, logistical, and operational assistance to the Class Sergeant(s) in the Recruit Training Program (RTP). You will play a key role in enabling rigorous instruction, supervision, development, and mentoring, particularly for recruits who require additional training and support. You will also contribute to the smooth and effective delivery of the RTP, ensuring that both instructional quality and recruit development are optimized.
Primary duties include
- Provide essential administrative tasks from initial recruit and class onboarding to completion of training and recruit graduation.
- Assist with classroom setup, technology issues, uniforms/equipment, and building access.
- Liaise with external presenters and represent Class Sergeants during presentations.
- Administer online examinations, assist with traffic and by-law ticket marking, and facilitate in-class presentations, demonstrations, and procedures.
- Provide ongoing scenario training support to Class Sergeants and Scenario Coordinators.
- Assist with remedial or additional developmental scenarios for recruits who are struggling or failing.
- Proctor exams and grade non-subjective exams such as multiple-choice exams and police ten code exams.
- Liaise with Curriculum Designers and portfolio-holding Sergeants for admin/legal updates for all RTP presentations.
- Coordinate with the Chief Crowfoot Learning Centre (CCLC) Training Team Lead for scheduling, external presenter/off-site class visit confirmation, and maintenance of online class documentation.
- Coordinate with the Police Training Officer Lead for recruit district placement for post-graduation training and experiential learning programs.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) plus job related course work.
- A minimum of 15 years policing experience, including at least 5 years as a police trainer.
- Must successfully complete Instructor Development Training Certification which may include Foundations of Instruction 100, 200, 300 & the Scenario Development Course (or equivalent), Called to Lead 100 (or equivalent) upon hire.
- Extensive training and experience in investigative and/or operational policing is required.

Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
Days of work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
