Position Description & Qualifications

As Serco expands its programs and partnerships in Canada, we are seeking dedicated and empathetic Peer Mentors to strengthen job seeker engagement and support workforce attachment across Alberta. This role is pivotal in fostering trust, motivation, and resilience among individuals navigating employment barriers.

Position Purpose

The Peer Mentor supports participants by using personal lived experience to encourage hope, resilience, and empowerment throughout their employment journey. The role focuses on building trusting relationships, promoting self‑advocacy, connecting participants with resources, and supporting individuals to recognize their strengths and goals. Peer Mentors work collaboratively with employment service teams while maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical peer support practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide encouragement and support to participants through shared lived experience.
- Build respectful and trusting relationships.
- Promote participant choice, independence, and self‑determination.
- Support participants in identifying strengths and employment goals.
- Share personal experiences appropriately to inspire hope and connection.
- Connect participants with community resources when appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Participate in training, supervision, and reflective practice.
- Document activities according to program requirements.
- Collaborate with Employment Counsellors and program staff.

Additional Key Responsibilities

- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of participant interactions and activities.
- Complete required documentation, case notes,



progress updates, and reports in accordance with program guidelines.
- Submit activity reports and program‑related documentation within established timelines.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings and team discussions with the Manager and Employment Services staff.
- Escalate participant concerns, risks, or issues to the Manager or designated staff member as required.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, privacy requirements, and professional standards.
- Contribute feedback and recommendations to support continuous program improvement.
- Support data collection and evaluation activities to help measure program outcomes and participant success.

Accountability and Performance Expectations

- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Maintain regular communication with their supervisor regarding participant engagement and program activities.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Comply with confidentiality, safeguarding, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Accurately document work activities and participant engagement according to program standards.

Required Qualifications

- Relevant lived experience connected to employment barriers.




- Ability to use lived experience appropriately in a professional setting.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Understanding of confidentiality and boundaries.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to complete required training.

Preferred Qualifications

- Peer Support certification.
- Experience in community services.
- Social services, human services, or related education.
- Mental Health First Aid or similar training.
- Experience supporting individuals facing barriers.
- Knowledge of community resources.
