Join the Tlicho Community Services Agency (TCSA) as a Child and Youth Counsellor and help make a positive difference in the lives of children, youth, and families. Working as part of the Mental Health and Wellness team, you will provide therapeutic support to children and youth experiencing mental health, behavioural, emotional, and social challenges. Based primarily in local schools, you will also provide services in homes, community settings, and other appropriate locations.
You will work closely with families, educators, health professionals, and community partners to develop individualized care plans that promote wellness, resilience, and healthy development. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about child and youth mental health, values collaboration, and is committed to providing culturally safe, trauma-informed, and family-centred care within the Tlicho region. Provide individual, family, and group counselling for children and youth.
Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions using a strengths-based, culturally secure approach. Support children, youth, and families through crisis situations and connect them with appropriate services. Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, social workers, RCMP, and community organizations.
Knowledge of child and youth mental health assessment, treatment planning, and counselling practices.
Experience supporting children, youth, and families with complex mental health or behavioural needs. Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Understanding of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and family-centred practice. This position provides therapeutic support to children and youth within school settings in Behchoko, which may include work in either the elementary or high school.
To be successful in this role, typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: A Master's degree in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Art Therapy, Clinical Social Work or Education with a focus on therapeutic counselling. GNWT Inquiries
