Overview
Emerging Lives Initiative (ELI) is seeking compassionate and dependable Casual/Relief Client Care Workers to support Black youth and young adults participating in our Transitional Housing and Community Reintegration Program in Ottawa.
Client Care Workers will help maintain a safe, respectful and supportive residential environment while assisting participants as they work toward stability, independent living, employment and successful community reintegration.
This is a shift-based residential position requiring availability for days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support and supervision to residents.
- Support participant intake, orientation and transition into the residence.
- Provide non-judgmental emotional support and active listening.
- Assist participants with life skills, routines and independent-living goals.
- Support participants in following their individualized plans.
- Assist with referrals and connections to appropriate community resources.
- Support employment-readiness and community-reintegration activities.
- Maintain accurate shift notes, incident reports and participant documentation.
- Respond appropriately to conflicts, emergencies and concerns within the residence.
- Support the safety and general functioning of the residence.
- Complete effective shift handovers and communicate relevant information to the team.
- Work collaboratively with the Program Manager/Residential Manager, Case Manager, Social Worker and other team members.
Qualifications
- Diploma, degree or ongoing post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Service Work, Community Services, Child and Youth Care, Mental Health & Addictions, Criminology, Psychology or a related field.
- Experience supporting youth, young adults or individuals facing barriers is an asset.
- Robust interpersonal, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive and non-judgmental approaches.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred or must be obtained as required.
- Must be available for rotating day, evening, overnight, weekend and holiday shifts.
Job Type: Casual/Relief Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8–24 per week
Location: Ottawa, ON
