Specialist Protection & Control (P&C;) Commissioning Engineer
Location: Burnaby, BC – Hybrid
Contract: 12 Months, with strong potential for extension
Compensation: $110–$115/hr INC | $91–$95/hr TERM

TEEMA is currently seeking an experienced Specialist Protection & Control (P&C;) Commissioning Engineer to support BC Hydro on a long-term contract opportunity.
This senior-level position will provide commissioning acceptance services and advanced technical support for Protection & Control systems across BC Hydro’s transmission and distribution substations, ranging from 12kV to 500kV .
The successful candidate will bring extensive transmission P&C; experience and will act as a technical subject matter expert supporting commissioning, field operations, project teams, and the operation of BC Hydro’s power system.
Responsibilities
- Provide commissioning acceptance and advanced technical support for P&C; systems.
- Support testing and commissioning of P&C; equipment across transmission and distribution substations.
- Perform P&C; system integration testing and field reviews of equipment installations and modifications.
- Review, accept, and seal commissioning documentation.
- Investigate system disturbances, faults, and abnormal operating conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide technical support to Communications, Protection & Control field technologists.
- Support project teams as a P&C; subject matter expert.
- Develop and review P&C; commissioning and maintenance standards.
- Coordinate specialized testing requirements and operating procedures.
- Support technical studies, contingency planning, and real-time power system operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience .
- Minimum 4 years of Protection & Control commissioning experience .
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC, or registered in another jurisdiction and eligible for registration in BC.
- Strong knowledge of P&C; testing and commissioning best practices.
- Hands‑on experience working in substation and field environments.
- Experience with fault analysis, system disturbances, and technical investigations.
- Solid technical writing and presentation capabilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering drawings, and standard industry design/analysis software.
Work Arrangement
This position is based out of BC Hydro’s Edmonds office in Burnaby with a hybrid work arrangement. Remote work from elsewhere within British Columbia may be considered; however, candidates must be available for travel to BC Hydro sites throughout the province as required.
Candidates must successfully complete the required background check and drug & alcohol testing prior to starting.
