Haida Child & Family is a Haida-led organization providing culturally appropriate, wrap around services to Haida children and families.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Community Connections, the Community Programming Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of community-based cultural, recreational, and wellness programming across Haida Gwaii.

The Community Programming

Coordinator will work closely with community members, cultural knowledge holders, facilitators, and Agency staff to ensure programs and other community-based activities are well-organized, accessible, and responsive to community needs. This position plays a key role in strengthening relationships, supporting cultural continuity, and creating safe, welcoming spaces for families and community members to gather and learn.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Coordinate and organize community programming across Haida Gwaii, including cultural, recreational, and wellness-based activities.

· Work collaboratively with community members, Elders, artists, cultural practitioners, and facilitators to plan and deliver programming.

· Identify program needs and opportunities in collaboration with the community, Family Preservation Workers and the Haida Child & Family (HCF) team.

· Arrange program logistics including securing space, coordinating supplies and materials, and ensuring venues are prepared and cleaned up.

· Track attendance, participation, and basic program outcomes.

· Promote programs through community outreach, social media, posters, email, and other appropriate communication methods.

· Support inclusive, culturally safe programming spaces for children, youth, adults, and families.





· Support facilitator agreements, scheduling, and honoraria in coordination with administration.

· Maintain accurate program records and summary reports.

· Attend programs to provide on-site coordination, support and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

· Respond to and escalate any safety concerns or incidents in alignment with HCF procedures.

· Ensure programs are carried out in alignment with Haida values and Agency policies.

· Other duties as required to help support the vision and intention of HCF to provide culturally appropriate services to Haida families.

Qualifications and Experience

· Knowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities.

· Post secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Human Services, or other related field.

· An equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and relevant work experience will be considered.

· A minimum of 3 years’ employment experience in a related role.

· Demonstrated ability to act in alignment with Xaads Xiináangaa | XaaydaGa Xaaynang.ngaay Haida Ways of Being including working from a foundation and deep understanding of Yahgudáng | Yahguudang | Respect,

· Experience in program coordination, community engagement, recreation, cultural programming, or related fields.

· Computer literacy for Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Microsoft programs and other computer software.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to work independently while staying connected to a team.

· Demonstrated skill set in managing multiple programs and competing priorities.

· Strong organizational and project management abilities.

· Applicant must successfully undergo a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

Working Conditions

· Travel between communities will be required.

· Hours of work will depend on programming scheduling and will include evenings and weekends.

· Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.

· Must be able to obtain and maintain a BC Driver’s License and possess their own vehicle.
