The Role - Posted by Quadrant The Controller is responsible for the overall financial management and accounting operations of the business. This role provides strategic financial leadership while overseeing the day-to-day activities of the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cash flow management, regulatory compliance, and robust internal controls. The Controller partners with operations, project management, purchasing, and executive leadership to improve profitability and support decision-making.
What You'll Do
- Lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations of the company, including mentor and develop the finance department.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to executive management.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor company financial performance against budgets and project forecasts.
- Present financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ownership and senior leadership.
- Assign workloads and establish performance expectations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training opportunities.
- Partner with Project Managers to review project financial performance.
- Ensure accurate labour costing and equipment allocations.
- Manage company cash flow and banking relationships.
- Track and update benchmark numbers (utilize and seek out latest industry numbers)
- Manage insurance renewals, bonding requirements, and financial reporting for surety companies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- CPA designation required.
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience within mechanical construction, construction contracting, or industrial services preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction job costing and WIP reporting.
- Experience with ERP/accounting software.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of payroll and tax compliance.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
