CONTROLLER
Position Overview The Controller will be employed by Lopes Limited and will be part of the finance team, with responsibility for providing financial support to Lopes Limited as required. The primary focus of the position, however, will be the full financial management and oversight of several other companies within the group.
The Controller will have independent responsibility for the accounting and financial operations of their assigned companies, including month-end and year-end reporting, financial statement preparation, cash flow management, reconciliations, internal controls, compliance, and day-to-day accounting activities.
The position requires a high degree of independence, organization, and prioritization, with the ability to manage competing requirements across multiple companies while maintaining clear accountability for the companies under the Controller's direct responsibility.
Job Duties
(specific to the designated companies within the Lopes Group of Companies)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform full cycle accounting functions, including but not limited to preparation, documentation, review and classification of expenses, accruals, fixed asset amortization and monthly general ledger account reconciliation.
- Prepare and analyze business balance sheets, profit and loss reports, Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable summaries.
- Coordinate, review, and present financial and management reports including cashflow management and forecasting reports, cost summaries and other reports as required.
- Record and reconcile investment statements.
- Record and manage intercompany transactions.
- Monthly Government Remittances.
- Year End entries up to and including all entries for year end prior to sending to accountant.
- Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions or oversee team as applicable.
- Prepare weekly payroll and related filings including, but not limited to WSIB, EHT and T4s
- Evaluate and refine internal control systems
- Communicate with external accountants, bank, and lawyers and provide any required information
- Stay up to date on all local, provincial, and federal tax laws and business regulations that affect the company. Ensure the company operates within the proper parameters.
- Capital Asset Reconciliation
- Provide leadership in understanding the operations and help to develop relevant KPIs to drive operational excellence.
- Other responsibilities assigned by the President, Vice President
What we look for: 3 to 5 years of progressing experience in accounting or related experience in medium-size companies
College’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, CPA designation an asset
Strong numerical proficiency, organization, good problem-solving skills and excellent use of logic
Robust in financial reporting, analysis, audits and compliance
Ability to identify errors and root cause
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Computer proficiency with advanced excel skills (v-look ups & pivot tables)
Excellent attention to detail/accuracy
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Customer centric with team approach and “can do” positive attitude
Strong work ethic where no job is too small mindset
Ability to work under pressure and meet crucial deadlines and demands

Pay: $70,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
