Description In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Data Analyst reports to the Director, and is an integral member of the team. The Analyst assists in the creation and dissemination of surveillance and performance measurement information to Island Health, provincial, and
national stakeholders. This work involves operation and maintenance of surveillance and performance measurements databases, development and maintenance of associated supporting documentation, research, data quality audits and
statistical analysis under limited supervision and in accordance with established standards and procedures. Performs data analysis, prepares and submits statistical reports and promotes the use of best practices in data management
and data quality. Monitors work quality and efficiency, assesses and responds to written and verbal requests for information, and facilitates access to information from external organizations. Prepares and conducts education and
presentation sessions.
The Analyst provides planning and analytical support for specific provincial/national requirements,
projects and initiatives as determined by the clinical team in consultation with the medical lead and Director. These projects are often related to more detailed planning projects associated with specific strategic priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Health Science or other relevant discipline or field of study, and three years' recent related experience working within the health system in an analytical or planning capacity.
Skills And Abilities
- Understanding of relevant clinical terminology.
- Ability to find, collect, analyze and interpret data, use basic statistical concepts, and prepare written reports.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use advanced computerized databases including SQL Server, MS Access, Excel and more advanced features of Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency with statistical programs (e.g. SAS, SPSS, R)
- Knowledge and demonstrated use of Tableau is an asset.
- Ability to build relationships with a variety of individuals is a critical attribute. This includes external relationships with organizations/agencies and with program/content experts across the country.
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging workplace as a part of a small and high-functioning team.
