Position Title: Electrical Engineer – Power Systems

Additional: Travel to client sites and other offices across Canada, the U.S., and internationally for short-term project assignments (site meetings, field reviews, assessments, testing, etc.)

About the Opportunity

We're recruiting on behalf of a client — one of Canada's leading private consulting engineering firms, with more than 45 years of experience serving the energy and natural resources sector. Their St. John's office is growing, and they're looking for an electrical engineer to support that growth and help deliver on power systems projects across the natural resource and renewable energy industries.

What You'll Do

- Work with clients, project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to prepare deliverables under established company and client standards
- Establish client needs, and prepare or review reports, estimates, specifications, quotations, and proposals
- Independently or with others, perform electrical studies such as power flow, short circuit, protection, arc flash, grounding, EMF, and NERC PRC and MOD compliance
- Develop and implement work methods to carry out project work
- Lead, supervise, train, and mentor junior engineers during project execution
- Perform site inspections, testing, and commissioning at client sites
- Create project scopes for services, budgets, and schedules
- Plan and monitor work assignments and costs
- Communicate with clients on active and future projects

Educational and Experience requirements:

- Bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D.



in electrical engineering, specializing in power systems, from a recognized post-secondary institution
- P.Eng., or eligible to register with PEGNL as a P.Eng.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience with power systems and studies
- Experience with power system software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, or ASPEN
- Recent hands-on experience performing studies such as power flow, short circuit, dynamic, and transient studies
- Experience preparing and reviewing technical documents such as reports, specifications, design drawings, studies, plans, and instructions
- Highly technical mindset with advanced engineering knowledge
- Experience developing proposals in response to RFPs and/or developing scopes of work based on client needs
- Practical knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
- Strong, demonstrated critical thinking skills
- A valid Class 5 driver's licence
- Ability to travel to client sites and other offices within Canada, the U.S., and international destinations for short-term project assignments

Assets:

- Project management knowledge, including scoping, planning, estimating, and analyzing project data
- Experience in HV/MV/LV electrical equipment troubleshooting, commissioning, and system installation
- Basic knowledge of writing electrical equipment specifications
- Familiarity with electrical protection and control systems
- Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, or IEC standards
