As a member of the nursing team, the Personal Support Worker – Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse to provide person-centred care and behavioural support to residents with responsive behaviours. This role focuses on promoting safety, dignity and quality of life by implementing individualized care strategies, supporting meaningful engagement and using evidence-informed approaches to manage responsive behaviours. The position complies with all legislative standards, company policies and procedures, and applicable rules and regulations while maintaining a qualified, compassionate, and respectful approach to resident care.RESPONSIBILITIESProvide resident-centred support to individuals referred to theBehavioural Supports Ontario (BSO)team, in alignment with peopleCare’s BSO philosophy and program guidelines.Work under the direction of theBSO RPNto help implement and monitor care plans that address responsive behaviours safely and support resident stability in the current care setting.Support residents and families usingevidence-informed approachesand therapeutic communication strategies.Coach, mentor, and support frontline staff (including PSWs) in applying behaviour support strategies, care plan interventions, and Kardex directions.Provide feedback and input to the BSO RPN and care team regarding resident responses, behaviour patterns, and opportunities to improve care approaches.Contribute toP.I.E.C.E.S. documentation, behaviour tracking, care planning and required BSO documentation.Participate in resident reviews, BSO evaluations and interdisciplinary discussions (includingRAP conferences,
as requested).Support the team in identifying and implementing strategies to reduce risk (including falls prevention interventions) for residents with responsive behaviours.Use BSO protocols, tools and best practices to guide behavioural support interventions and consistent service delivery.Participate in required education/training and collaborate with internal and external partners/resources, including specialised behavioural and mental health supports, as needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Required Qualifications)Current Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificaterequired.Previous experience supporting older adults withresponsive behaviours, dementia, mental health, or complex care needsin long-term care or a related setting is preferred.Knowledge of (or experience with)BSO principles, P.I.E.C.E.S. and behaviour support approachesis an asset; preference may begivento candidates with relevant BSO core competencies/training.Strong communication, observation and teamwork skills with the ability tocoach and support frontline staffin a respectful, collaborative manner.Flexibility to workall shifts (days/evenings/nights/weekends)based on resident needs and program requirements, and ability to meet all standardPSW role/job description requirements .Thank you for your interest in joining peopleCare!We are excited to learn more about you and the experience you would bring to our team. peopleCare is committed to an inclusive and accessible recruitment process.
