Nechako Lakes School District gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral territories of fourteen First Nations representing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples. We are working diligently towards creating equity for our learners through conscious acts of Reconciliation.

The School District

We serve 2,825 students in our standard schools and an additional 900 FTEs at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia.

Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities, and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Come and enjoy over 200 lakes, rivers and streams and an abundance of outdoor recreation at your doorstep.

The Community

The village of Burns Lake and the surrounding area stand out for their rich First Nations culture and exceptional mountain biking and hiking trail networks. In winter, the area transforms into a haven for cross‑country skiing, fat‑tire biking, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling enthusiasts. Burns Lake is surrounded by many lakes, offering year‑round fishing, hunting, and a variety of water sports during the summer months.

Local First Nations, including Wetʼsuwetʼen First Nation, Lake Babine Nation, Cheslatta Carrier Nation, Ts'il Kaz Koh First Nation, Skin Tyee First Nation, and Nee‑Tahi‑Buhn Band, contribute to the historical, cultural and economic diversity of the region.

The town also supports local industries such as logging, saw‑milling, mining, and tourism, and serves as the primary commercial centre for surrounding communities.

Burns Lake offers cafes, pubs, restaurants, retail stores and essential services, including a new modern hospital.
