Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Geotechnical Engineer role based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada.
The Geotechnical
Engineer will plan and execute site investigations, including field testing, sampling, and coordination with drilling crews. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing soil and rock data, preparing geotechnical reports, and providing recommendations for foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, and slope stability. The role involves reviewing design drawings, supporting construction activities with technical input, and troubleshooting geotechnical issues that arise on site.
The engineer will collaborate with internal teams and clients, ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, and contribute to project planning, budgeting, and quality assurance.
Qualifications
- Robust practical skills in site investigation, including planning field programs, supervising drilling and in-situ testing, and interpreting field data.
- Solid understanding of soil behavior and properties, including classification, laboratory testing, and application of soil mechanics principles.
- Proficiency in geotechnical engineering analysis, including bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, earth pressure, and ground improvement methods.
- Knowledge of engineering geology concepts, including stratigraphy, ground conditions, and geological hazards relevant to the Greater Toronto Area.
- Experience with foundation design, including shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and excavation support systems.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Eligibility for professional engineering licensure (P.Eng) in Ontario, or working toward licensure.
- Familiarity with relevant Canadian and Ontario geotechnical and building codes, standards, and guidelines.
- Ability to work on site in varying weather conditions, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction; proficiency with common geotechnical software and MS Office.
