Application deadline: Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
Salary: $7,200 annually
Position Description The successful candidate would be responsible for the following:
- Governance Administration. The consultant will support meeting scheduling and coordination, develop and maintain standardized agenda and minute templates, and ensure accurate minutes are recorded, approved, and archived after each monthly meeting. They will also maintain a current registry of governance documents — including bylaws, policies, and Board terms — and flag items requiring review or renewal.
- Recruitment and Onboarding. The consultant will develop and maintain a Board recruitment pipeline, drafting outreach materials and coordinating candidate identification in collaboration with the Chair.
They will build and maintain an onboarding package for incoming members that covers organizational history, governance responsibilities, financial overview, and the Board’s relationship with the Editor-in-Chief and staff.
- Strategic Planning. The consultant will lead the development and periodic refresh of The Manitoban’s strategic plan, including organizing planning sessions, synthesizing Board input, and producing a final document suitable for internal use and external stakeholder communication. They will also monitor progress against strategic priorities and provide brief updates to the Board as needed.
- Special Projects and Research. On an as-needed basis, the consultant will undertake research assignments identified by the Board — such as benchmarking advertising rates against peer student newspapers or surveying comparable governance models.
