The Department of Hospitals & Surgical Health Services establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system.

This position resides in the Ministry of Hospitals & Surgical Health Services under the Acute Care Division, Cancer and Surgical Services Branch.

Role Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage a team of policy professionals by providing coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and staff development.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of surgical services policies, programs, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to senior leadership on surgical services priorities, emerging issues, risks, and system improvements.
- Lead stakeholder engagement and collaboration with internal and external partners to support effective policy and program delivery.
- Manage complex issues, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to support operational and strategic objectives.




- Oversee performance monitoring, reporting, and accountability processes to ensure successful program outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Support the preparation of executive briefings, Cabinet and ministerial materials, and strategic communications.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

A university graduation in a field related to the position assignment (Business Administration,



Public Administration and Health Administration), supplemented by four (4) years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Required

- Experience in policy management and/or project management.

Asset

- Knowledge of health care system, acute care, surgical system etc.

- One (1) permanent positions available.
- 36.25 hours per week
- Location: Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T5J 0N5 or 10333 Southport Road SW, Southland Park II Building, Calgary, Alberta, T2W 3X6
- Final candidates will be required to undergo a criminal records check (CRC).
- Shift Work: Monday through Friday from 8:15AM to 4:30PM
