Compensation: As independently contracted service providers, Victoria Conservatory of Music Faculty set their hourly studio rate in consultation with their respective department head, and according to the established Conservatory Tuition / Instructor Fee grid. Hourly compensation rates currently range from $41.00 – $60.50/hr.

As a member of a diverse and vibrant community of artist mentors within the Victoria Conservatory, this part-time faculty position offers the incumbent the opportunity to teach harp primarily to beginner students, while also supporting students at intermediate and advanced levels as appropriate. The instructor will teach students of a range of ages while pursuing a professional career as a performer. Ideally, the instructor will be available to provide lessons at the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s downtown campus. Candidates who teach from their own home studio or provide online instruction will also be considered. Harp instructors residing outside the Capital Region may be considered for online teaching.
The instructor will build and maintain an active teaching studio in harp, with a focus on the Classical genre, supporting the Conservatory’s recruitment efforts and maintaining regular communication with department leadership and faculty colleagues.
Students will be guided toward becoming well-rounded musicians with solid technique, musicianship, and a strong understanding of their instrument.
The instructor will have a strong desire to be part of a team of dedicated teachers and will encourage their students to participate, as appropriate, in activities offered through the Conservatory, such as department concerts and special events. Strings faculty are encouraged to work with their Department Head to develop recruitment opportunities and strategies and create programs that meet the artistic and pedagogical goals of faculty and the musical and social development of students
Qualifications and Requirements
Education, Professional Training and Acquired Skills:
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency as a harpist, with a strong foundation in Classical harp technique and repertoire.
- Preferably 4 years of postsecondary/advanced level training (BMus or equivalent) or the professional equivalent with recognized accredited teachers
Experience
- At least 2 years of recognized skilled performing in the Classical field, including experience with solo, chamber and ensemble performance.
- At least 2 years teaching/coaching harp students of a variety of ages and levels.
- Broad and fluent knowledge of standard harp repertoire and instructional materials, from beginner to advanced levels, with the ability to demonstrate a level and standard of recognized expertise within this area.
- Experience preparing students for performances, examinations, auditions, competitions, or other musical goals is beneficial.
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, families, department leadership, and faculty colleagues.
