Position Summary The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff. The position performs routine and specialized cleaning and disinfection of resident rooms, common areas, offices, dining areas, washrooms, and other facility spaces in accordance with organizational policies, infection prevention and control standards, occupational health and safety requirements, and applicable long-term care regulations.

Key Responsibilities

- Clean and disinfect resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, hallways, dining areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Perform routine dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and spot cleaning.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and frequently used areas.
- Collect, handle, and dispose of garbage and waste according to facility procedures.
- Replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and other housekeeping materials.
- Maintain housekeeping equipment in a clean, protected, and operational condition.
- Follow appropriate procedures for cleaning areas affected by spills, bodily fluids, or infectious materials.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, including proper hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or environmental concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Respect residents' privacy, dignity, personal belongings,



and individual preferences while working in resident areas.
- Interact with residents, families, visitors, and staff in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
- Follow WHMIS, occupational health and safety, infection control, and facility policies and procedures.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and according to manufacturer and facility instructions.
- Complete assigned cleaning schedules and documentation accurately.
- Assist with special cleaning projects, seasonal cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or related work experience.
- Completion of WHMIS training and ongoing compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Previous experience working with seniors, including individuals living with mental illness or cognitive challenges, is preferred.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, cleaning, and sanitation procedures.

Working Conditions This is a fast-paced and challenging position requiring empathy, patience, and an understanding of the needs of seniors. The role involves close and respectful interaction with residents, including those with mental illness or cognitive challenges. A current Vulnerable Sector Check completed within six months is required, along with compliance with all workplace health, safety, and infection prevention requirements.

Pay: $17.00-$21.00 per hour
