We are seeking a full-time Intermediate / Junior Legal Assistant.

This is an excellent role for a detail-oriented, proactive professional looking to build their career as a legal assistant and contribute meaningfully to a busy litigation practice.

Role Description

We operate a high-pace litigation practice where deadlines, procedural accuracy, and thorough due diligence are important. The ideal candidate has an eagle eye for detail, strong organizational habits, and a practical approach to keeping daily workflows structured and seamless for both lawyers and clients.

This role requires an adaptable, highly organized Legal Assistant who can manage calendar deadlines, assist with document preparation, stay current with changing court administrative procedures, and keep our day-to-day office running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

- Litigation Support: Assist with drafting, formatting, proofreading, and preparing pleadings and court documents for filing at the Court of King's Bench, Alberta Court of Justice, and Alberta Court of Appeal under legal direction.
- Court Navigation & Diarization: Coordinate document service and filings in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court.



Maintain reliable bring-forward (BF) systems, track limitation dates, and manage court calendars.
- Administrative & File Management: Lead day-to-day file organization and administrative tasks throughout the lifecycle of a file (opening, maintaining, and closing files in both physical and digital formats).
- General Office Support: Handle essential front-of-house and administrative office duties, including welcoming visitors, managing incoming/outgoing mail, deliveries, and couriers, answering incoming calls, maintaining office supplies, and ensuring meeting spaces are professional and ready for clients.
- File Financial Administration: Assist with financial file workflows within our practice management software, including time entry support, tracking disbursements, and drafting/reviewing pre-bills.
- People Skills: Act as a clear, welcoming, and professional point of contact when liaising with clients, court clerks, process servers, opposing counsel staff, and firm vendors.

Qualifications

- Relevant Experience: 1–4 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Office Administrator within an Alberta litigation or general practice environment.
- Attention to Detail:



Meticulous proofreading skills and a high standard of accuracy regarding document formatting, dates, court filing procedures, and administrative duties.
- Education: A recognized Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate, Office Administration Diploma, or equivalent practical experience.
- Court System Knowledge: Solid foundational understanding of procedural rules and filing processes for the Alberta Court of Justice and Court of King’s Bench (Court of Appeal knowledge is an asset).
- Digital Literacy: Strong computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and legal practice management software (PCLaw, Clio, or equivalent).
- Adaptability & Initiative: Proven ability to multitask, manage general office needs proactively, and master new digital tools or court administrative guidelines as they evolve.
