Internal Controls Specialist – 4-Month Contract

100% Remote | 4-Month Contract | Potential for Extension

Our client is looking for an experienced Internal Controls Specialist to join their team on a 4-month contract, with potential for extension. This is a fully remote opportunity for a professional with strong experience in internal controls, SOX compliance, controls testing, and risk management .

The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Accounting, Audit, and business stakeholders to assess, document, test, and strengthen internal control processes.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support the design, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of internal controls across financial and operational processes.
- Perform SOX control testing , including testing control design and operating effectiveness.
- Conduct walkthroughs and assess key business and financial controls.
- Identify control gaps, deficiencies, and risks and support remediation activities.
- Prepare and maintain risk and control matrices, process narratives, flowcharts, testing documentation, and workpapers.
- Partner with process owners and stakeholders to gather information and document key controls.
- Support internal and external audit requests and provide required documentation and evidence.
- Track control deficiencies and remediation activities through completion.




- Perform risk assessments and periodic reviews of existing controls.
- Analyze data and supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies and potential control issues.

Qualifications:

- 4+ years of experience in Internal Controls, SOX, Internal Audit, or a related function.
- Strong hands-on experience with SOX compliance and internal control frameworks .
- Experience with control testing, walkthroughs, risk assessments, and remediation.
- Solid understanding of financial and operational processes and related controls.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to work with systems, data, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets is highly preferred.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Comfortable working in a fully remote environment .

- Duration: 4 months with potential to extend
