BFM Foundation Canada is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across the country. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation Canada and Bible League Canada (BLC). These funds are used to establish adult and children’s literacy programs, church planter training, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Inventory & Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the flow of donated goods from donation through storage and distribution, ensuring that the right products are available at the right time to support maximum sales while maintaining efficient warehouse operations. This role manages inventory across the main store, off-site storage, and secondary locations, ensuring a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory system is consistently followed.
The Inventory & Logistics Manager works closely with the Store Manager, Production Manager, Donation Centre team, Warehouse team, and volunteers to maintain an organized, safe, and productive inventory system while providing an excellent donor experience.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control
- Develop, maintain, and enforce a FIFO inventory system.
- Manage approximately 80 trailer loads of stored inventory.
- Monitor inventory age and ensure that older product is processed before newer donations whenever practical.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, storage maps, and trailer contents.
- Identify aging inventory and develop plans for timely processing or redistribution.
- Develop and implement systems and procedures that improve inventory accuracy, storage efficiency, product flow, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs associated with storage, transportation, shipping, handling, and inventory management.
Donation Flow & Donor Service
- Ensure that every donor receives a friendly, welcoming, and professional experience.
- Greet and acknowledge donors promptly, offering assistance with unloading donations whenever possible.
- Promote a culture of exceptional customer service that reflects the organization’s mission and values.
- Ensure that donation receiving areas remain clean, safe, organized, and inviting.
- Coordinate the efficient receipt and movement of more than 200 daily donor loads while minimizing wait times.
- Monitor traffic flow and staffing levels to provide timely service during peak donation periods.
- Address donor questions, concerns, or complaints professionally, and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Work with the management team to continually improve the donation experience and encourage repeat donors.
- Develop and implement systems that improve the efficiency and productivity of the donation-sorting process.
- Identify opportunities to improve team efficiency, reduce unnecessary handling and movement of product, and lower operational costs.
Storage Management
- Organize trailers and storage areas for productive access and retrieval.
- Ensure that trailers are clearly identified and inventoried.
- Rotate inventory to maximize product freshness and quality.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized storage facilities.
- Develop systems that improve storage accuracy, space utilization, product accessibility, and inventory tracking.
- Regularly evaluate storage practices and recommend changes that reduce handling, transportation, and storage costs.
Product Distribution
- Supply production with appropriate inventory based on departmental needs.
- Coordinate transfers of inventory to the second store location when additional product is required.
- Work with store leadership to maintain consistent product availability between store locations (Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI).
- Schedule transportation and loading of transferred inventory.
- Develop efficient systems for transferring product between locations while minimizing transportation and handling costs.
- Coordinate inventory movement across multiple locations based on demand, available storage, and operational priorities.
Team Leadership
- Supervise warehouse staff and volunteers assigned to inventory functions.
- Train team members on inventory procedures, FIFO practices, customer service expectations, and safe material handling.
- Assign daily priorities and monitor productivity.
- Foster teamwork and strong communication across departments.
- Lead and manage a team with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for productivity, accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
- Provide clear, positive direction and establish expectations that enable team members to work effectively and independently.
- Manage staff and inventory operations across multiple areas, locations, and stores.
- Develop team processes and workflows that improve productivity, and reduce unnecessary labour and operational costs.
Planning & Continuous Improvement
- Meet regularly with management to forecast inventory needs.
- Communicate storage capacity concerns before they become operational issues.
- Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency and reduce handling costs.
- Assist in planning seasonal inventory requirements.
- Continuously evaluate current systems and identify practical improvements to inventory control, storage, donation sorting, transportation, shipping, and labour efficiency.
- Take ownership of implementing improvements rather than simply identifying operational problems.
Health & Safety
- Maintain safe warehouse and trailer storage practices.
- Ensure compliance with organizational safety policies.
- Operate forklifts and other equipment safely.
- Report hazards and participate in maintaining a safe work environment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- A valid Forklift Operator Certification and demonstrated ability to safely operate a forklift is required.
- Customs Certification/training is required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, inventory management, distribution, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience leading or supervising a team.
- Solid knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, logistics, transportation, and distribution.
- Previous experience developing and implementing operational systems and processes.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a physically active warehouse environment.
- Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and inventory tracking.

Compensation Expectations The starting compensation will be $50,000.00 per year, depending on experience.
