This role demands a forward-thinking leader with industry expertise and consulting experience with a proven ability to deliver projects, mentor teams, and drive business growth.Role:We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Biologist / Project Manager who will serve as a pivotal leader within our Ontario Environmental, People, and Place team, bridging the gap between rigorous scientific fieldwork, regulatory compliance, and robust project delivery. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for overseeing environmental baseline programs, permitting strategies, and environmental impact assessments for major energy, infrastructure, and mining developments across Canada, with a primary focus in Ontario.You will manage the full project lifecycle, serving as the client's main point of contact, controlling multi-disciplinary project budgets, and managing commercial risks. On the technical and operational side, you will serve as the central coordinator for all environmental field surveys across multiple portfolios of project sites and various clients.



Project specific roles may include environmental permitting lead, environmental compliance lead, PLAA lead, and environmental project manager. This includes scheduling, logistics, and health and safety tracking for the field biology teams, coordinating environmental permitting packages as well as providing senior peer review for their biological and ecological baseline reports.Additionally, you will play a critical role in regional business growth by leading the scoping, strategy, and assembly of competitive technical proposals to secure new project work.This is an excellent opportunity for a recognized environmental professional to take the next step in their career and help build a top tier environmental services team within an internationally-recognized consulting firm of entrepreneurs with technical souls.Required ExperienceMinimum of 10+ years of progressive, post-graduation environmental consulting experience within Canada. Past consulting experience is mandatoryProven track record of managing and delivering environmental services specifically tailored to the mining, heavy infrastructure, transportation, and energy sectors, ideally within OntarioDemonstrated experience coordinating complex environmental field programs and tracking field logistics, safety, and schedules for teams of terrestrial and aquatic biologistsProven experience and commercial acumen to understand contractual conditions that impact execution, effectively monitor project budgets, track earned value, and proactively take actions to mitigate unfavourable trendsExperience conducting senior technical reviews of biological baseline reports, environmental impact statements, and natural heritage assessments to ensure scientific integrity and defensibilityDeep, practical familiarity with Ontario's regulatory frameworks and a proven track record of successfully navigating and securing applicable permits, approvals, and authorizations (e.G., under the Environmental Assessment Act, Species Conservation Act, Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act; Ontario Water ResourcesAct and Public Lands Act)Successful experience directly interacting, negotiating, and maintaining professional relationships with provincial and municipal regulatory agencies (e.G., MECP, MNR, Conservation Authorities)Direct experience with federal Environmental Assessment (EA) or Impact Assessment (IA) processes under the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) is strongly preferredProven ability to lead the development of complex technical and commercial proposals, including scope definition, level-of-effort estimation, and budgetingExperience working alongside, with, or for Indigenous clients, developing long term relationships,

A related Master's degree (M.Sc.) is an assetA Project Management Qualified (PMP) designation is considered a strong assetExceptional organizational and logistical skills required to manage multiple field teams simultaneously, combined with a strong understanding of Ontario's ecosystems and species at riskExcellent technical writing and communication capabilitiesAbility to provide mentorship, feedback and support to junior staffDeep knowledge of Ontario and federal environmental and permitting requirements for energy and infrastructure projectsStrong commitment to field safety protocols, including familiarity with applicable Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations as they apply to remote and industrial field sitesAuthoritative and precise technical writing skills for regulatory submissions, alongside excellent verbal communication skills for building trust with clients, regulators, and field staffConsensus-building and cross-discipline team leadership skillsRegistered Professional Planner (RPP) designation and membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is preferred. MCIP designation is considered an asset. Other relevant professional certifications or registrations are beneficialMTO Registration and Qualification System (RAQS) certification in Class Environmental Assessment, Natural Sciences, and/or Fisheries Assessment Specialist categories, or the demonstrated experience and training to attain these is considered an assetBase salary range: $115,000 - $165,000At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance-based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well-being and growth.This position is based in Hatch's Mississauga, ON office, which is Hatch's global headquarters. Travel to other Hatch offices, client offices, in addition to occasional field assignments would be expected.
