Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Machinist Apprentice to join our manufacturing team in Cambridge, Ontario. The successful candidate will assist with setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and conventional machine tools to manufacture and modify precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and quality standards.
This position is intended for an apprentice who already has basic machine-shop experience and is able to perform CNC machining duties safely under supervision while continuing to develop their machining skills.
The position provides hands-on workplace training and an chance to further develop competencies in the General Machinist trade under the guidance and supervision of experienced machinists.
Key Responsibilities:
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
· Set up, operate, and adjust CNC machine tools, including CNC mills and lathes, under the guidance and supervision of experienced machinists.
· Assist with setting up and operating 5-axis CNC milling equipment using 3+2 indexing, under the guidance and supervision of experienced machinists
· Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, attachments, and machine accessories.
· Load materials and components, monitor machining operations, and make adjustments as required to maintain quality and production efficiency.
· Assist with reviewing and modifying CNC programs under supervision, as required.
· Measure, inspect, and verify finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
· Identify machining defects, tooling issues, or equipment concerns and report them to the supervisor, and assist with corrective action as required.
· Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas, machines, and tools clean and organized.
· Follow all workplace health and safety procedures,
quality-control standards, and company policies.
· Work collaboratively with supervisors and other team members to meet production deadlines and maintain efficient workflow.
Qualifications:
· Completion of secondary school is required.
· At least 1 year of experience in CNC machining, general machining, machine operation, or a related machining environment is required.
· Experience setting up and operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, or similar machining equipment is required.
· Experience with 5-axis CNC machining using 3+2 indexing is required.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production specifications.
· Experience using precision measuring and inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
· Basic knowledge of CNC programming, G-code, CAD/CAM software, or machining process adjustments is an asset.
· Registration in the Ontario General Machinist (429A) apprenticeship program or previous related apprenticeship training is an asset but not required.
· Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to workplace safety.
· Ability to perform work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and handling materials as required.
