Project Location: Approx. 110km southwest of Dease Lake, BC / 700km north of Vancouver, BC

Work Environment Hybrid (office/remote) in Smithers, BC with regional travel (NW BC).

Standard Schedule 7.5 hours daily (M-F), additional hours as required.

Compensation: $137,000 - $170,000 per year + additional cash incentives

Job Summary

Reporting to Manager, Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Affairs (SERA), the Manager, Engagement & Community Relations is responsible for leading the development and execution of community and Indigenous engagement strategies that support project advancement. This role collaborates closely with internal teams and liaises with community partners to plan, supervise, execute, and report on engagement activities and community initiatives while ensuring alignment with GCMC’s safety, environmental, regulatory, and social performance requirements.

The position will be a hybrid work arrangement (office/remote) based in Smithers, BC and relocation assistance is available. Although the position is office-based, there will be regular travel throughout various Northern communities, including to those of our Indigenous partners and COIs (Communities of Interest). Time at the Galore Creek Project is also an expectation.

Key Responsibilities





- Ensure GCMC’s commitment to excellence by recognizing our core values of health and safety, people, responsible development, continuous improvement and innovation, and integrity.
- Manage and lead the overall approach for respectful collaboration and engagement with communities and Indigenous Nations, in particular with the Tahltan Nation.
- Manage the coordination of engagement sessions, workshops and open houses with community and Indigenous Nations in support of Project activities.
- Manage and lead collaborative multidisciplinary efforts to ensure appropriate Indigenous and community involvement in technical and environmental aspects of the Project, specifically for the purpose of the upcoming regulatory process. Ensure inclusion and documentation of engagement outcomes, specifically pertaining to Indigenous knowledge.
- Support the upcoming major regulatory approval process, including drafting or reviewing social and Indigenous-related materials as the project progresses toward development.
- Develop and implement plans to manage social risk and demonstrate that engagement is informing GCMC’s overall risk assessment throughout various project milestones and stages.
- Manage engagement tracking and analysis, specifically in support of the upcoming major regulatory process.

Qualifications

- At least 8 years progressive experience in community and Indigenous engagement is preferred, experience in a major regulatory process is considered an asset.
- Formal education in Social or Political Sciences, Resource or Development, Social Policy and related fields (or equivalent relevant work experience).
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences (written and verbal).
- Proven experience managing complex and sensitive engagement environments.
- Strong leadership, and collaboration skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others, support employees, and ensure a safe, healthy, inclusive workforce.
- Ability collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (technical, regulatory, environmental, executive).
- Proven ability to build and strengthen positive, trusting relationships with Indigenous Peoples and COIs, enhancing community perceptions, engagement, support, and mitigating social risk.
- Functional knowledge of ESG best practices in Canada, including FPIC of Indigenous People.
